At Marlborough Tiles, we are always inspired by projects where historic architecture and considered craftsmanship come together to create interiors of lasting character.
This exceptional home, dating to the 17th century and later refined with a Georgian façade, is a striking example of that balance. The house carries a rich sense of history - named after a tree planted by Charles II, it has been carefully restored under the guidance of Adam Architecture, with interiors by Max Rollitt and joinery by Guild Anderson.
At the centre of the home is a beautiful orangery-style kitchen extension. Designed to connect the house with its gardens, it is filled with natural light and feels both generous and intimate - an elegant space for contemporary family life within a historic setting.
Behind the range cooker, Antique White Squares add texture, practicality, and a sense of heritage, elegantly finished with matching Antique White Quarter Round trims.
The design approach is rooted in evolution rather than reinvention. Layered paint finishes, aged oak, and carefully selected antiques create the impression of a room that has developed over time. An original 18th-century dresser plays a key role in shaping the design language, reinforcing the sense of continuity and heritage.
A Bertazzoni range cooker sits at the heart of the kitchen beneath a bespoke mantle with concealed extraction. Framed by hand-painted cabinetry and aged oak, it forms a strong focal point. The palette is carefully balanced, with a bold island in Little Greene’s Cordoba contrasted against Farrow & Ball’s archived Farrows White cabinetry.
Behind the range cooker, our Contemporary Classics Antique White tiles provide a calm and timeless backdrop, finished with Quarter Round edging pieces to neatly complete the splashback. Their soft, handmade surface introduces gentle variation and texture, subtly reflecting light while allowing the surrounding craftsmanship to take centre stage.
The tiles' undulating surface creates a focal point whilst their colour beautifully complements the scheme for this kitchen.
Rather than dominating the space, the tiles act as a quiet counterpoint to the richness of the materials around them - oak, paint, stone and antique finishes. Their restraint enhances the overall composition, bringing clarity and cohesion to a richly layered interior.
Elsewhere, the kitchen continues this careful integration of tradition and function. Quartz worktops offer durability, while brass and nickel fittings introduce permanence and refinement. Integrated appliances are seamlessly concealed within joinery, ensuring modern performance does not interrupt the traditional aesthetic. Every detail reflects a commitment to craftsmanship and estate-inspired design principles, where beauty and utility are held in equal measure.
