Natural Terracotta

Inspired by traditional terracotta floors found across Southern Europe, North Africa and Mexico, our Natural Terracotta collection celebrates the warmth, variation and character of fired clay. Choose from a range of timeless shapes and sizes, including pairing terracotta with our glazed coloured cabochons to create a more decorative, individual look.

Choose from three carefully curated finish bundles – Light, Deep or Antique – containing everything you need to achieve your desired finish after installation. Naturally varied and full of character, these are floors designed to feel as though they have always belonged.

Your terracotta floor

Frequently asked questions

Terracotta is a beautiful choice if you love a floor with warmth, texture and natural character – but it is important to understand that it behaves differently from a porcelain tile. Each tile is naturally varied and perfectly imperfect, with differences in colour, tone, texture and surface character all forming part of its charm. Small chips, marks and irregularities can occur and, over time, your floor will develop its own unique patina.

As a naturally porous material, terracotta must be correctly installed and sealed to help protect it from staining and discolouration. It will also require ongoing care and occasional maintenance to keep it looking its best, and installation can take a little more time and attention than laying porcelain.

Our terracotta tiles are 1.5cm thick, so remember to consider finished floor height, thresholds and clearance beneath doors when planning your project. We do not recommend them for shower or wet-room floors, or other areas where they will be repeatedly saturated with water, as this can lead to staining or changes in appearance.

If you love the character of an evolving, lived-in floor and are happy to embrace its natural variation, terracotta is a wonderful choice. If you would prefer a more uniform finish that requires less maintenance and is designed to remain consistent over time, a terracotta-effect porcelain such as our Andalucia Collection may be a better option.

Yes. Our natural terracotta tiles are suitable for interior floors throughout the home, including kitchens, hallways, boot rooms and living spaces.

At 1.5cm thick, they create a wonderfully warm and characterful floor with the natural variation associated with traditional European, North African and Mexican interiors.

Yes. Terracotta is naturally porous, so our tiles are supplied unfinished and must be correctly installed, cleaned and sealed before use. Sealing helps protect the surface from moisture, marks and staining and makes the finished floor easier to maintain.

No, our glazed cabochons do not need to be sealed. However, they will not be harmed by the sealing products applied to the natural terracotta tiles surrounding them, so there is no need to avoid them during the sealing process.

Our unglazed natural terracotta cabochons are porous and do need to be sealed in the same way as the rest of your natural terracotta tiles.

Like many traditionally glazed tiles, the surface may develop fine crazing over time, which is a natural part of the way the glaze ages. The glazed surface can also chip if knocked or if a heavy or hard object is dropped onto it, so a little care will help keep your cabochons looking their best.

Choose from our three Terracotta Finish Bundles depending on the look you would like to achieve. Light Finish retains a softer, more natural appearance; Deep Finish enhances the rich, warm tones of the terracotta; and Antique Finish creates a deeper, aged appearance with a beautifully lived-in character.

Each bundle contains the cleaner, sealer, oil or wax products required for your chosen finish, covering up to 10m2 of floor.

No – and that's part of their charm.

Terracotta is a natural material, so variations in colour, tone and surface texture should be expected. Once laid together, these subtle differences create the wonderfully varied and individual appearance of a traditional terracotta floor.

Once correctly sealed, terracotta is relatively straightforward to care for. Regular cleaning and appropriate maintenance will help protect its appearance, but spills should be cleaned promptly as terracotta can stain if its protective finish becomes worn or compromised.

Over time, your floor may require additional maintenance or resealing to keep it looking its best.

Our General Cleaner is a great product for maintaining your floor - powerful enough to clean but without strong chemicals that can strip sealer and wax from your tiles, or damage the natural terracotta beneath.
