CAROLINE'S FIREPLACE

Get the look

If you’ve ever imagined a fireplace that feels both right where it belongs and deeply personal, Caroline McQuistin’s Isle of Skye-inspired hearth offers abundant inspiration. Rooted in the wild beauty of the surrounding Scottish landscape, the design captures a sense of quiet drama and natural poetry - proof that a fireplace can be far more than a functional focal point.

When we first spoke with Caroline, she shared how the shifting skies, rugged coastline, and heather-covered hills of the Isle of Skye shaped her vision. Every detail was chosen with care, from the tonal palette that echoes mist and stone to textural elements that reflect the island’s raw terrain. The result is a striking yet serene centrepiece where traditional craftsmanship meets the untamed spirit of the Highlands.

If you’re hoping to create a similar atmosphere in your own home, begin with a grounding base inspired by nature - think soft neutrals, weathered terracotta hues, and organic textures. Then layer in subtle, meaningful details that reflect the landscape around you, whether through handcrafted finishes, natural materials, or artisanal touches like hand painted Delft brushstrokes, that tell a story.

In this Get the Look, we’ll explore the design elements Caroline selected and show you how to recreate this harmonious blend of heritage, landscape and understated elegance in your own fireplace project.

So often if I’m scrolling on Instagram or Pinterest and see some tiles I like, when I look further into it and discover they’re from Marlborough Tiles. Their tiles always just seem to jump out to me, so when creating a feature that I want to catch people’s eye when they enter the room, Marlborough Tiles was a no brainer.
