Introducing the English Garden Delft collection

Unveiling a new Delft collection to mark Marlborough Tiles’ 90th anniversary

We are delighted to announce the launch of English Garden Delft, a hand painted tile collection created to mark Marlborough Tiles’ 90th anniversary. Combining the timeless charm of traditional Delft with the quiet beauty of the English countryside, this collection reflects our rich heritage and enduring commitment to craftsmanship.

Inspired by life in the English countryside

The English Garden Delft collection draws its inspiration from Marlborough Tiles’ long-standing relationship with the Wiltshire countryside. Nestled on the bank of the River Kennet and surrounded by the rolling chalk hills of Marlborough Downs, our factory sits at the heart of a region where gardens reflect the vast wildlife and countryside beyond. The motifs in this collection celebrate the quiet, familiar beauty of English gardens, from sunflowers and geraniums to robins, hedgehogs, and wood pigeons, capturing the rhythm, harmony and abundant life of the natural world that surrounds Marlborough Tiles every day.

A collection curated by the Marlborough team

What makes the English Garden Delft collection particularly special is that each motif was chosen by a member of our talented team, making the designs a collective expression of their experiences living and working in the Wiltshire countryside. From the playful hedgehog to the cheerful duck, the joyful watering can to the elegant cake stand, every design reflects a personal connection to the gardens, wildlife and everyday objects that inspire life at Marlborough Tiles. This collaborative approach ensures the collection celebrates both the people behind the tiles and the charm of Wiltshire gardens.

A standout feature of this collection is the corner motif, drawn from Marlborough’s mid-20th century archive. It gently weaves the company’s rich heritage into this contemporary take on Delft, while celebrating the artistry and craftsmanship that have defined Marlborough Tiles for decades.

Handmade in Wiltshire

At Marlborough Tiles, we have been handcrafting tiles in the heart of Wiltshire for over 90 years. Each tile in the English Garden Delft collection is painted by hand using the Majolica technique, a traditional process in which colour is applied directly to the tile’s raw glaze before firing. This approach, adopted by our artists since 1936, allows the brushstrokes to sit softly on the surface, creating depth, warmth and texture.

No two tiles are ever exactly alike - a subtle, organic variation that celebrates the beauty of the handmade.

For the love of Delft

This Delft tile collection is crafted for contemporary interiors, offering a timeless decorative touch that brings character and quiet elegance to any space. The hand painted motifs can be used with restraint, adding a subtle, handcrafted detail or repeated to create rhythm, pattern and a sense of movement across walls, fireplaces, splashbacks or feature panels.

Hand painted in two of our signature Delft colours, Rosalind Blue or Sylvia Blue, the English Garden Delft motifs infuse interiors with the warmth, charm and artistry of classic Delft, bridging the beauty of heritage with the spirit of modern living. Whether placed in a period home or a contemporary setting, each tile invites a sense of craftsmanship and poetry into the space it adorns.

Lives woven into design

Our team of artisans and design experts have brought their own stories and moments into the collection. Every tile is a reflection of the gardens they wander, the wildlife they watch and the simple joys that surround them, turning the collection into a tapestry of personal experience and quiet countryside beauty.

A closer look at the collection

The English Garden Delft collection features 15 unique decorative motifs, hand crafted on a 13x13 cm tile with a gently undulating surface and a subtle crackle glaze. It is available in two base shades: Chalk White and Antique White.

Each tile can be hand painted in one of our two signature Delft colours, named in honour of Rosalind Ord and Sylvia Packard, the visionary women who founded Marlborough Tiles in 1936 - a special tribute to our nine decades of heritage and enduring roots:

  • Rosalind Blue: a distinctive interpretation of traditional Delft blue, vibrant and full of character.
  • Sylvia Blue: a soft, elegant hue, thoughtfully designed to harmonise with both period and contemporary interiors.

Tiles are priced at £34.66 per illustrated tile, or £4.04 for corners only.
